The case surrounding “Dominican Mami” singer’s DUI concludes with an official sentence.
DaniLeigh, real name Danielle Leigh Curiel, was sentenced on Thursday for her involvement in a hit-and-run incident.
According to documents obtained by XXL Magazine, Curiel pled no contest to a misdemeanor DUI charge and one count of DUI causing injury — which is a felony. She won’t serve time in prison as she was sentenced to five years probation. Two other charges relating to the case, leaving the scene of a crime and an additional DUI charge, will be dismissed if Curiel completes her probation without violations.
The singer’s attorney, Michael Catalon, spoke with XXL Magazine during a phone interview about the crash and her character.
“She wants to say, ‘I’m really sorry about this,’ but [the victim] has a lawyer and we never let people talk because it can be held against them,” Catalano explained to XXL. “The truth of the matter is, the gentleman who got hurt, was at fault in the accident.”
Curiel was arrested the morning of May 30, 2023 following a hit-and-run incident. Curiel was driving a Mercedes-Benz G550, and she was speeding while weaving in and out of traffic. According to the Miami Beach Police Department, she hit a moped rider near 11th Street and continued driving without stopping or slowing down.
An officer was able to finally pull her over near 16th street and the report notes that her car smelled of alcohol and her motor skills were “sluggish.” Curiel claimed that she didn’t hit anyone and that she didn’t drink any alcohol.
Police conducted two separate breathalyzer tests, both coming back more than twice the legal limit. Police later found an empty bottle of Don Julio in Curriel’s car.
The victim, who Curiel struck during the incident, suffered from a fractured spine and a lacerated kidney. The man filed a civil lawsuit against Curiel, which is still going through the court system.
